Industry has become an essential part of modern society, and waste production is an inevitable outcome of the developmental activities. A material becomes waste when it is discarded with impunity and may pose a potential hazard to the human health or the environment (soil, air, waste) when improperly treated, stored, transported or disposed off or managed. Scheduled waste contributes a major share towards environmental degradation and the public health. In Malaysia, in the last two decades, the waste management has been a major concern. Scheduled Waste refers to the waste listed in the First Schedule of the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulation 2005. They are classified as toxic and hazardous to environment as well to human health thus ought to be handled in a special manner. Improper management of such wastes will result in multiple problems including non-compliances and illegal dumping activities that could spark into public outcry. Hence it requires a comprehensive knowledge and skills among the employees in the handling of scheduled wastes in an effective, safe and sound manner as well as be always in compliance with the law.
